Reverend
Crawford G. Holmes
1888 - 1897

Church membership divided into factions. One part came to the present location, and the others remained on the corner of  Glenn and Humphries.

...God will never leave us alone...

After Reverend Crawford G. Holmes, the fourth pastor, was called to Zion Hill Baptist Church, division and dissention arose.  One faction went to a Georgia Avenue/McDaniel Street location, where they worshipped in a building with a dirt floor.  The other part of the congregation stayed at Glenn and Humphries Streets.  The Terrill papers indicate, “In the midst of divided membership God still watched over his people.  If we pray, God will never leave us alone.”

While the Glenn/Humphries group appointed a committee, composed of C.H. Kelly, Wash Holland and John Roberts to select a desirable place for the Church, the members who went to the Georgia Avenue/McDaniel Street location called the Reverend W. W. Floyd to serve as pastor.  Over the years, five pastors served at the Georgia Avenue/McDaniel Street location:   Reverend Floyd (1899-1916), Reverend C.H. Robinson (1916-1926), Reverend Joe. T. Johnson (1926-1942), Reverend Levi M. Terrill (1943-1971) and Reverend Larry H. Williams (1971-1976)
