1916 - 1926

World War I was in full swing when Reverend C. H. Robinson, the sixth pastor, began his work in 1916.   Soldiers were going to France singing “Over There” and soldier camps sprang up everywhere. Robinson kept a packed house all the time and God enabled him to build the brick building on McDaniel Street little by little. The Armistice was signed in 1918 and peace was the watch word throughout the world. At this time the mass migration of African Americans out of the South numerically impacted the Zion Hill membership.  However, Reverend Robinson took those who remained and completed a beautiful brick building and laid the cornerstone in 1923.  When the members of the Zion Hill Baptist Church marched into their new building there was joy and shouting all over Atlanta. It was truly a great day in Zion. Their dreams had come true. The Lord of life and life eternal took Dr. Robinson to his much needed rest on August 9, 1926, after having served ten years.
