Eight Symbols of the Zion Hill Logo

The dot over the “i” in “Hill” is one of several rocks, representing God, Jesus the Christ, and the followers of Jesus the Christ.

The composite image underneath the rock is water, which symbolizes the community (local and world) into which God, Jesus the Christ and the followers of Jesus the Christ are dropped, sent or deposited. Water also conveys the ideas of cleansing and new birth - notions that speak to the radical change one experiences when coming into a relationship with Jesus the Christ.
The dropping of the rock into the water causes a splash, which signifies the impact that God and God’s people are to have on the communities into which they are dropped, sent or deposited.
The ripples immediately underneath the splash indicate the spreading influence of depositing God and the people of God into any situation.
The splash created by the rock drop creates a crown, which represents the crown that Christ earned through his sacrificial life and death, and the crown of eternal life that is promised to those who have faith in him.
The words “Zion Hill Baptist Church” simply refer to the fellowship of believers, who happened to have been former slaves, that began at a brush harbor in 1872.
The color purple symbolizes both sacrifice and royalty – two attributes that characterize our Savior, Jesus the Christ.
The color black represents the mystery and majesty of God.
